A good finish is mostly prep.
What the paint desk tells every customer.
Do this
- Wash walls with a mild cleaner and let them dry fully
- Fill, sand and spot-prime patches so they do not flash through
- Prime bare drywall, bare wood and any glossy surface
- Buy all the gallons for a room at once and box them together
- Cut in and roll one wall at a time to keep a wet edge
- Allow the full recoat time on the can, longer in humid weather
Avoid this
- Painting over glossy trim without sanding or a bonding primer
- Applying ADVANCE thick; it levels itself in thin coats
- Painting exteriors below 40°F or on surfaces in direct hot sun
- Judging a colour from a chip alone; paint a sample pot on two walls
- Using a cheap roller cover with premium paint
- Recoating before the first coat has cured, especially dark colours
Colour samples in 8 oz pots are at the desk. Computer colour matching reads a chip, a fabric swatch or a photo.
Warranty & care
What is covered, and how to keep it that way
Warranty terms come from Benjamin Moore and differ by line. We will pull the right certificate for what you buy.
Warranty
How coverage works
- Benjamin Moore backs its lines with limited product warranties that vary by product — the term and coverage are printed on each label and in the product data sheet.
- Colour match: bring the chip, a painted board or the old can and we will match it on the desk. If a batch reads wrong against the chip, bring it back with the receipt.
- Tinted paint is mixed to order and cannot be returned once tinted, so buy a sample pot before committing a whole room.
Care
Keeping it right
- Let a fresh wall cure before washing — wiping too early burnishes the finish.
- Wash with a soft sponge and mild detergent, never abrasive or solvent cleaners.
- Keep the batch number and the tint formula from the can lid for touch-ups; we can pull the formula from your account too.
- Store part-used cans upside down with the lid seated to keep the skin off the paint.
